Meet The Founder: Marcus E. Hammond-Cook

Marcus E. Hammond-Cook is the Founder of Coins & Clarity Bookkeeping & Notary, a bookkeeping firm dedicated to helping small businesses gain clarity and confidence in their finances.

Marcus holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Washburn University, a Paralegal Certificate from Montgomery College, and matriculated in the Bookkeeping & Accounting Certificate program at UCLA Extension, where he studied under Professor Crystalynn Shelton, CPA, a nationally recognized accounting author, educator and practitioner. He is also a member of the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers, the Bookkeeping profession’s national association since 1987, and its national certifying authority.

Marcus previously served as a Paralegal with the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, where he managed financial and administrative activities for the federally funded Access and Visitation Grant administered through the Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement. From 2012 to 2016, the District was allotted a mandatory annual grant of $100,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service's Administration for Children and Families. His responsibilities included coordinating contract execution with the Division's procurement attorney, conducting program audits, reviewing and approving invoices, and preparing and submitting annual financial & program reports to the federal government. Notably, due to measurable program improvements during his tenure, the agency's Child Support Services Division secured a separate competitive federal grant of $150,000 in late 2014 to strengthen early intervention for non-custodial child support payments.

Building on that foundation, Marcus developed more than 16 years of bookkeeping experience through MHC Business Solutions LLC (formed in 2009), where he provided financial services exclusively to business entity formation clients. Recognizing a broader need, he launched Coins & Clarity to bring that same expertise to the wider small business community.

MHC Business Solutions LLC, Coins & Clarity's parent company, has continued to grow alongside the firm — recently securing a contract with the City of Los Angeles to provide legal support services, demonstrating its capacity to deliver professional legal and administrative solutions at the municipal level. This work further deepens Marcus's expertise in compliance, documentation, reporting, and organizational operations.

Marcus currently serves as both a Commissioned Notary Public and Registered Legal Document Assistant in California, and formerly held a commission as a Texas Notary Public. His combined background in accounting, law, compliance, and government administration gives clients a uniquely detail-oriented approach to bookkeeping and financial management. Through Coins & Clarity, he helps business owners see their finances the way an attorney reads a contract — precisely, completely, and with an eye toward what it means for their future.
